HERNDON

The Plebe Recognition Ceremony, also known as Herndon,
normally occurs at the start of the Yard's Graduation,
Commissioning Week. Successful completion of the
assault of Herndon, regardless of how long it takes
('98 Knows!!!) will signify that your Mid is no longer
a Plebe, but a 4/C Mid.
Until Herndon is climbed and that Plebe Dixie Cup is
exchanged for an Upperclass Cover, NO Mids, regardless
of Class, will be able to leave the Yard.
It is to also be noted Tradition has it that the Plebe
who successfully climbs Herndon and makes that cover
exchange will be that Class's first Admiral. However,
this has not as yet happened.
However, the successful Herndon Climber will receive
the Supe's Cap and souvenir Admiral's Boards, as a
memento of this great occasion.
Tradition has it that you are finally NOT a 4/C Mid
anymore, but become a 3/C Mid upon return from your
Summer YP Cruise. This occurs upon the sighting of
the Yard's Chapel Dome while cruising in the
Chesapeake upon approaching Annapolis.
